IN MEMORIAM TOM ZARRA
It is with great sadness that the Spring Lake 5 mourns the passing of Thomas Zarra. Tom was a local runner, loving husband and father who lost his courageous battle with cancer on May 21, 2022 at the age of 64. Tom was a staple in the running community and very accomplished runner having run a sub 3 hour marathon, part of the Penn Relay 4x400 50 year old Masters Team that ran sub 4 minutes, and local club Shore AC Runner of the year. Tom ran the Spring Lake 5 race for over 30 years along with hundreds of other races in the area. Tom loved running, mentoring students where he was employed at HW Mountz School in Spring Lake, and singing and playing his guitar. Tom fought like a warrior whether he was sprinting to the finish line in every race, or fighting his battle with cancer. Tom was not only a great runner, but also an inspiration to every person he met with his Christian faith, kindness, and humility. Even towards the end of his life, Tom's smile and warm heart continued to touch people's lives. The Spring Lake 5 and running community will sorely miss Tom, and heaven has gained a wonderful soul who will be always be remembered.
